In my previous article, the stage was set for Mohammed Bin Qasem
initial foray into India. The events took place during the reign
of Hindu King Dahir of Sindh. Many of the names of cities and
persons mentioned in this article have been obtained from
descriptions by illiterate Arab Historians who could not pronounce
or understand the original Sanskrit words. Since the Muslim
invaders burnt all the Hindu accounts of history we are forced to
depend on the tainted Arabic version.
Dahir-the noble King
King Dahir's capital was Alor, a prosperous city of Sindh in
India. His large kingdom covering the whole of Sindh was divided
into four administrative regions. The governor of one region used
to stay at Brahmanapur and control the townships of Nirun,
Devalaya, Lohana, Lakkha and Samma. The other governor with his
capital in Sivisthan used to be in charge of Budhpur, Jankan and
Rajhan hills upto Makran border. The third governor used to look
after the region around Talwada and Chachpur. The fourth region
had its capital at Multan and comprised of Sikka, Brahmapur, Karur,
Ashahar and Kumba. The region bordered on Kashmir. Under Dahir's
direct supervision from Alor, were the areas around Karwan,
Kaikanan and Varanasi.
Dahir was known for his administrative capabilities and was
respected as a just and powerful king. His coastal guard used to
intercept piratical Arab traffic and punish the evil-doers.
Qasem starts his Islamic Orgy of loot and plunder in India
Mohammed Qasem proceeded with a huge force of Muslim gangsters and
cavalry to Shiraz. There he tarried until he was joined by another
gang of criminals under Abul Aswad Jhan. This expedition was being
equipped with meticulous detail. The combined forces of Qasem and
Jhan moved via Makran to the Indian border (which then comprised
of Afghanistan too) and stormed Kannazbur and later Armail. Here
another marauder, Mohammed Bin Harun , eager to share his loot of
plunder, joined the Arab force. But he was killed by the Indian
border forces and made to kiss the dust.
Terrorizing Hindu civilians in the regions run over, to become
Muslims, Qasem conscripted them into his service. As the Muslim
gang marched, they burnt down crops, poisoned lakes, raped women,
destroyed villages, razed townships and turned Hindu temples to
mosques.
Devalaypur (Karachi)
After massacring the civilians in Indian border areas, Qasem
ordered his formidable armada on to Davalaypur (present day
Karachi). A detachment landed and cut off land across to the huge
fort that existed there. In the center of the fort there was a
towering Hindu temple. The saffron flag on the top of the temple
could be seen from miles around. Muslim marauders mounted
mangonels and catapults on huge boats tethered together and shot
boulders and naphtha inside the fort.
Qasem's gangsters stormed into the fort and started an orgy of
massacre, rape and plunder. This continued for three days. The
entire fort was converted into a big prison in which Hindu
civilians were maimed and their homes were seized by the Muslims.
The main temple was converted into a mosque.
A message of victory was dispatched to Governor Hajjaj and the
Caliph Walid. Both were very pleased and sent messages of
congratulations to Qasem wishing him more such manslaughter and
wholesale carnage. Both Hajjaj and Caliph were now awaiting for
the captive women and ornaments from the mangled bodies of Hindus
massacred by their beloved gang-leader Qasem.
Nirun
Reinforced with more troops, terrorized men and plundered wealth,
Qasem's gangsters pushed forward on the Indus. They reached the
city of Nirun after travelling for six days. Few months earlier,
the civilians of this very city had witnessed how Budail and his
Arab army were slain by Hindu forces. The situation was so bad for
the Islamic army that time that Hajjaj had to plead for a peace
agreement with the Hindu forces. Mohammed Qasem remembered that
shameful defeat very well and was ready for breaking any previous
peace agreement for taking his revenge.
The Hindu civilians were outnumbered by the ever-increasing Muslim
forces guided by the terrorized converts. The inhabitants of Nirun
sent deputations to Hajjaj to remind of his pledge to keep the
peace-agreement. The scoundrel he was, Hajjaj arrested the
deputations and forced them to accept Islam.
Meanwhile the brave Hindu garrison of Nirun had successfully
blocked all access to water and food resources from Qasem's
marauders. Qasem's forces encamped on a meadow about a mile away
from Nirun, reduced to a pitiable state for want of food and
water. Just at that crucial time, the newly converted group of
local Nirun people were delivered as prisoners to Qasem. With them
Qasem arranged to send some Muslims stealthily into the fort on
the pretext of wanting to negotiate and open the gates for Qasem's
forces to enter. The neo-converts terrorized by the dire threats
and exposed to sights of ghastly torture agreed to seek entry in
Nirun and then have a gate of the fortress left unbarred at night.
At the appointed hour, in the dead of night Qasem's forces entered
the township. The usual depredations followed. All who refused to
accept Islam were put to Sword. The main Hindu temple of Nirun was
declared to be a Jama Mosque.
Many more such atrocities would be committed by Mohammed Bin Qasem
in his blood-lust and greed for the wealth of India.
