The Hypocritical Behavior
Of Atal Behari Vajpayee
It appears that the Prime
Minister of our country, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee has caught the 'psuedo-secularism
bug'. This bug's primary target is the victim's brain as it aims
to convolute an individual's thinking process. The Prime Minister
is showing clear signs of having caught this disease as his
thought processes and effective decision making capability are
steadily declining. For example, just recently he warned the BJP
MPs against introducing non-official bills like institution of
uniform civil code, banning cow slaughter, ban against foreigner's
holding top public offices and scrapping of Article 370. The Prime
Minister told the MPs that as these bills were not on NDA's agenda
it was counterproductive to introduce them.
The very same bills which were, only weeks ago, essential for
creating a stable economic and social environment in the country
have now become counterproductive. This disease has damaged the
memory cells of the Prime Minister as he has forgotten that BJP
was voted into power because of its stand on issues such as the
uniform civil code, construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya,
scrapping of Aricle 370, banning of cow slaughter and the ban on
foreign citizens holding top public offices. He has also forgotten
that he went around begging for votes promising the people a truly
secular government--a government based on 'Hindutva'. And now that
the people have voted him as their Prime Minister he has
conveniently forgotten all about 'Hindutva'. 'Hindutva', according
to Mr. Vajpayee, has now become counterproductive.
It was Adityanath (a BJP MP from Gorakhpur) who caused the Prime
Minister to issue his absurd and irrational warning. Adityanath,
taking advantage of the Private Members' bill provision introduced
bills which would institute uniform civil code and ban cow
slaughter in the country. The bill on uniform civil code was
vehemently opposed by the Muslims and the Congress party members
in the Lok Sabha. Even some of the allies of the BJP either walked
out or decided to vote against its introduction. Trinamool
Congress walked out while the other allies of the BJP like JD (U)
and DMK voted against the bill's introduction. The motion was
however, carried by two votes 48 to 46. The opposition members
were equally fanatical in opposing the introduction of the bill
banning cow slaughter. Muslim League member G. M. Banatwala stated
that this bill was unconstitutional and threatened the government
that if it is passed Muslims will initiate riots and violence all
over the country. The speaker, however ruled that the House was
competent to legislate on the matter and the bill was introduced
by a voice vote.
Instead of lauding the efforts of the MPs and encouraging them
further to bring to the forefront important issues such as the
scrapping of Article 370 and uniform civil code the Prime Minister
is trying to suppress their voice. A country which has two
different sets of laws for people belonging to different religions
should make the task of institution of uniform civil code a top
priority before thinking about any other developmental work. It is
ludicrous that India calls itself a secular state while the
government of the country gleefully discriminates against 80
percent of its population. Does Mr. Vajpayee think that he is the
head of a Islamic state where Muslims are given special provisions
and the 'kafirs' are humiliated and tortured? By his actions the
Prime Minister is not only back-stabbing his own party members,
but also the people of the country. This is an opportune time to
remind him that the people of the country will not allow his
hypocritical and criminal actions to go unpunished.
A leader like Mr. Vajpayee who suppresses the freedom of his own
party members cannot be fit to lead a country. Such a mentally
handicapped person poses a grave threat to the security of the
nation and corrective actions are required to eliminate such a
threat.
